Course of Action

Updated: Jan 2, 2021

The Course of Action is the order of actions one is planning on doing. The course of action is not time based but created in the context of units of action relative to the learning curve of the individual independent of time. It may be difficult to predict how much time one would need to increase one's understanding or skill in an area, so one engages with the activity for as much time that is available or until the person reaches a learning plateau in the activity.

Order of Experience:

The Course of Action has to do with a principle of the Order of Experience. The order of experience thesis basically states that our current psychological state is composed of the experiences that I have recently done. My state after going for a run is different than before going for a run. Depending on how I compose my state of mind is relative to the order of experiences that precede that state of mind. If I engage in self-love activities, I am building my state of mind to function differently and more optimally for I will also be reducing my anxiety of not having completed those daily self-love activities.

We can in advance compose our days and lives keeping in mind an Order of Experience, that the sequence or order of experiences has an effect on the state of mind that occurs after the action or experience.

Example Course of Action:

Wake up

Meditate (primes mind and brain to think clearer, increases executive function and ability to make decisions)

Stretch and Exercise (releases endorphin's that change my brain functioning and allows me to feel more focused while i am doing other activities)

Eat

Secondary Project 1 - Music Training (I actually do this secondary project first because it is a physical training element and I need to execute it multiple times throughout the day. While I am resting from this secondary project and waiting to engage again to stimulate the muscles, I engage in my primary project)

Primary Project - Creation of Website Content

Secondary Project 1 - Music Training

Eat

Secondary Project 3: Social Responsibilities

Primary Project 1 - Web site

Secondary Project 2 - cleaning

Layering Secondary Project 1 - Music Training (I am able to layer two activites in one time slot thereby achieving double the progress because the activities do not cancel each other out)

Primary project 1 - website

Eat

Secondary Project 2 - Entertainment - videogames

Primary Project 1 - website

Secondary Project Meditate (process information until able to reengage)

Primary Project - website

Sleep

As you can see, I alternate activities such that I am using my brain to its optimum capacity. My main focus is my primary project, however my brain has limitations. So I alternate between my primary project and my secondary project(s) to optimize my brain's processing power and learning.

Action Pallet

My action pallet is the available actions I have at my disposal to switch from primary to secondary. These actions have cost benefits to them and are related to my meaning and purpose. Depending on the type of processing and learning that I am doing, I will need to alternate to a different activity that is using a different part of the brain. For example, if I am studying for school it may be beneficial to switch to a physical activity to allow the part of my brain that is processing the information I am reading to rest. Within the context of reading, sometimes you can switch the kind of material you are reading and get a bit more out of the activity and type of learning, like a book from a different course.

The action pallet is not necessarily composed of habits. The available actions on the pallet can be formed into habits if they are repeated enough. If an action is a habit, it will not take willpower to engage in. However, if an action has not been formed into a habit yet, it will take some willpower to enact the action. See Action Points: Willpower Tool.
