The System

Updated: Feb 16, 2021

The philosophical perspective I am showing here is meant to be holistic and applicable from the first and third person perspective. We want a means to interpret behaviour and the mind in such a way that it is consistent in its predictive results. We want to help ourselves and others in cultivating a healthy mind with techniques and principles that apply to everyone and can be tailored to specific situations. This system is meant to do that: show how we can cultivated habit of the body and mind that lead to personal and social well-being.

System for All Conscious States

By system i mean a set of principles, procedures, reality testing methods, ...that is coherent

  • cognitive module and scientific paradigm

  • acts like a compass

  • function is to ground oneself to 'reality'

    • what is reality?

    • does reality exist when one is in a dream?

  • a common denominator between all states

The reason for this is because all states are 'states of mind'
  1. What are the common elements within the mind which we can detect from our perspective?

  2. How can we interact with these elements such that we can modify outcomes?

First we need to pin down what kind of phenomena we are talking about. being in the self and observing the self as an other are two very different forms of the same phenomena. The compass is supposed to offer a guide through the process of understanding. This process is what the mental health institution must be based on for it to have any relevance in the healing process. Some existing mental health practices have certain biases which need to be distinguished and left aside. The goal is not holding on to existing theories and trying to prove them but approximating ourselves to the truth and modeling our theories off that.

Dialogue example:

  • Other: He was very disrespectful and I didn't do anything wrong.

  • Self: At first I was uncomfortable when he told me the girl he wanted to fuck was my ex gf from the summer. I explained who she was and he said he would not talk to her anymore. I pushed it out of my mind as to trust him, and we had fun for a few hours watching a movie. At the end of the night, he discussed how he was concerned about his reputation and didn't want me to be honest with her about the situation. I then became angry because I was tolerant for hours of his lack of awareness and empathy for the situation he put me in but couldn't take it anymore!

The difference in how the individual's explain the situation and the outburst behaviour are radically different. The information that they paid attention to and what they narrated to themselves throughout the situation lead to a different 'perspective' later on. These perspectives are what account for what happened in the situation to each individual.

  1. What system could we use to prevent and solve this current situation?

  2. What else would be affected by a resolution of this conflict?

  • a proactive measure for mental health issues.

  • increase in empathy, communication, self awareness, social and moral responsibility,

  • physics limited to soundness in perspective and measurement

Metaphysics is what is beyond that.
  1. What rules or implications can we utilize when our mind is not akin to accuracy?

  2. Is it the case that superstar minds have simply learned the rules behind that which makes the mind accel in the cosmos ?

Metaphysics

  • that which you cannot see but like a mathematics 'effects' other properties with predictable consistency

  • the language used here, this type of thinking and communicating with others, is that which is not necessarily present in the moment but exists over time

  1. Why is it the person acts this way?

The application of observation to the self is the first step. Getting used to 'labelling' behaviours; 'let us make this moment here distinct from others,' ;here is how i will draw out the boundaries of what is.' [ ---] = behaviour over time

  1. How do we model the layering of behaviours and self models in the moment?

Analogy of having 5 different waves on a graph that all interact to a single property.

  • Some of the waves on the graph will react to a subset of properties that do not apply to other waves

  • Each wave - or better said now, layer of self or consciousness within the person, will have its own information that it picks up in the environment

  • Each layer of self may not be fully developed linguistically or conceptually. Each layer of self goes through a developmental process within its environment. The self has elements that influence it. It begins in a physical space then moves into a social space then cultural (values). [need to clarify the neurodevelopmental process of the layering of selves ]

The Self is like a Symphony

If something fell and made a loud noise, it would have a ripple effect on the entire situation of musicians and the audience. the social itself has the end in mind to balance itself out and not let the noise take away from the goal of enjoyment and performance. unless the noise is something that is a sign of a higher value at risk of loss or being broken.

The holistic experience of the self is like listening to a symphony as a whole, disregarding all the parts that went into the performance.

The same is with the mind:

to become one is to observe and orient all the parts of one's self composition.

this goes back to the things which may not seem present in the moment.

  1. Why did I do this or that?

  2. What came over me that i behaved or acted this way?

Once one is able to see all of the pieces which compose the states and behaviours that exist, they can then begin to change to properties to their desired states or experiences.

Mindlessly not having control over one's life and one's self is a thing of the past. Mental health as we know it today will forever change. It is within your autonomy and control to make a difference for yourself. Mental health is the same as physical health, in the sense that it is conscious effort to specific things in reality which leads to the body thriving, there are properties in one's experience which they can become aware of and change which affect the mental health.

For example, believing in things like astrology will not change the fundamental things that are affecting your moods, lifestyle and wellbeing. One may read a joyous or satisfying horoscope, but the horoscope, due to the barnum effect, cannot have anything to do with making your life better. It is an illusion.

The real thing, which will free you from your suffering is your control over yourself. Where are you deciding to direct your effort and attention. If you don't even know that something exists, you necessarily cannot decide to do it. Maybe you will be 'lucky' and fall on that roulette square, but I would prefer to hit the right number every time.

Expectation and expectation construction are essential to building mental health. Attempting to disregard expectation entirely is nonsense for we have a priori expectations about reality so that we can survive and function within it. Actual expectation-less living would be something of an extreme dysfunctional illness.

The goal here is to create realistic and open expectations. If X occurs then I will do Y. If X does not occur I will do Z. Preparing oneself for multiple outcomes based on which is most probable is the best way to ...

example states:

dreaming

waking

in the mind of the other - the wom-(pt) - womb for another

(i am kind of in the mind of this specific other right now)

- what does it mean to be in the mind of another

non sound mindedness
